ADVANCED EXCEL  FOR DATA MANAGERS  (PART 1)

Course Outline

At the end of Part One, students will learn to do the following:

Module One – Pivot Tables

  • organise data in a way that analysis can be done; understand the rules to ensure data is correctly organised to avoid errors
  • analyse data using a Pivot table; customise the pivot table to report what is required
  • modify the MS Excel ribbon to show Pivot Table and Chart Wizard button (command) to automate the process
  • analyse data from more than one sheet or workbook using consolidated ranges in a Pivot Table

 

  • Module Two – Pivot Charts
    • Create a pivot table and a linked pivot chart to portray data in meaningful ways
    • Choose different types of pivot chart designs to support their presentation

 

  • Module Three – Mail merge
    • Merge data from an Excel database into fields created in a Word document to create several documents to different recipients
    • Format information coming from Excel in the Word document using number switches

 

  • Module Four – Vlookup and Hlookup functions
    • Automate the pulling of data from one workbook into another by specifying unique identifiers in both databases (using a vertical search Vlookup, or a horizontal search Hlookup)

 

  • Module Five – Conditional Functions
    • Use of IF, AND and OR functions in formulae to give instructions and receive results based on the meeting of certain criteria
    • Nested functions (using the result of one formula as input for another)
